Book Week

We loved Book Week!  We had different teachers reading to us every day, visiting authors and illustrators, a book fair and of course we dressed up as book characters!  Here is Jason, from the Kaiapoi Library - he is a published poet and a musician too.

We all dressed up as characters from books - can you tell who we are?

Term 3 begins

Welcome back!  A particularly warm welcome to Layla who has started as a new entrant in Rimu this week.

We have begun the term's study with Life Education and 'Harold' reinforcing how special we are and how to nurture our friendships.  Here we are teaching Harold's puppet friends The Three Cs:

We are using our unique finger and hand prints to make art:
Our sports coaches are helping us learn new ball skills and new games to play with our friends:

Run, run, as fast as you can....

... you can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!  Yesterday we baked gingerbread men as our Big Book Response, along with re-telling and role-playing the story.  We followed the book's recipe - practising doubling and halving skills - then we were the foxes and ATE the gingerbread men.  Snip! Snap!

Planet Earth and the Sun

As part of our Planet Earth study, we have been learning how Earth moves around the Sun - taking a day and a night.  Here we are tracing our shadows one afternoon then observing the different position our shadows made the following morning.  Wow!  Our Earth really has moved!

Planet Earth & Beyond

We have been learning about the wonders of our amazing planet.  Our inquiry questions led us to a study of volcanoes!  Here we are making individual ones to take home (parents loved them too....) and then back by popular demand, making even bigger ones in the sandpit.

Badminton fun

We are lucky to have four Badminton lessons - check out our skills!

Happy Birthday Queen Elizabeth

We have been learning why Monday was a special holiday.  We practised drawing our best queen and made our pictures into a birthday card to send to Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace.  She will love it....
